CLEVELAND, Ohio -- If you’ve seen Jul Big Green perform, you’ve likely heard at least some of his new music.
The Cleveland-based musician, whose real name is Julien Huntley, will soon release his first full-length album. It’s full of songs that Huntley has written over the course of the past four years, all created after he released his first EP, “All Things.”
“This album, it goes all over the place, it’s got my hip-hop, it’s got my rock,” Huntley said. “You can think that you know my style but then you listen, and two songs later, it’s completely different. Even if you don’t like it, at least skip through and listen to 10 seconds of every song.”
And Huntley isn’t stopping with just one album. It turned out that he had enough material to record two full-lengths -- the first will be nighttime themed and will release in October, and the second will be daytime themed, released in 2020. He’s also got some Christmas music he’s hoping to put out in the holiday season.
One of the songs from his first upcoming album has been in the works since 2015 or 2016, when he went to South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas with some friends. The group started jamming, and Huntley found a beat loop that he enjoyed.
That beat, along with the repeating refrain, “Dancing in the moonlight, holding your hand tight,” stuck with the musician and later turned into the song “Dancing In The Moonlight.” You can listen to a premiere of the funky dance song below, featuring Nathan-Paul & The Admirables, another Northeast Ohio band.
